ANNUAL PROGRAM CLASSES

Annual Program classes are for those students looking to dance recreationally with the finest offerings in dance instruction, choreography, performance opportunities, in a positive and encouraging learning environment. Dancers will progress through the levels. 

These classes running for a full annual dance season, September to June, with multiple performances throughout the year for all levels. Costumes are supplied by Veselka except for footwear and Poltava blouse or shirt at the intermediate and senior levels. 

Age is only a guideline in class placement, Veselka takes care in placing students in the appropriate level for their development and safety. 

Little Dancers

Little Dancers for 3-4 year olds introduces children to the world of Ukrainian Dance and Ballet. It encourages creativity, musicality, and physicality. Little Dancers introduces our youngest students to a classroom setting and introduces them to age-appropriate dance vocabulary in a nurturing environment.

Class length – 45 mins

Beginner 

The Beginner class is offered for 5-6 year olds to develop musicality, movement, coordination, and an enjoyment for Ukrainian dance. Students will learn one piece of choreography and will have the opportunity to perform throughout the year.

Class length – 45 mins

Junior 1, 2, 3  

Classes are offered for children aged 6 – 11. As dancers progress through the curriculum their work is complemented by choreography and progressively more competitive and non-competitive performance opportunities. Students will have the opportunity to learn choreography from different regions of Ukraine.  

Junior 1 Class length – 1 hour 

Junior 2 Class length – 1.25 hour 

Junior 3 Class length – 1.5 hour

Technique 1 (7-9 year olds)

The technique class is ballet technique for Ukrainian dancers. Ukrainian dance and ballet coalesce harmoniously, each enhancing the other’s strengths. Ballet impacts invaluable qualities such as flexibility, strength, speed, agility, balance, focus, and endurance. Ballet teaches the body to execute movements safely, reducing the risk of injuries. Ballet technique helps dancers execute faster turns, produces greater flexibility in kicks, and achieve greater height in jumps.

Class length – 1 hour 

Technique 2 (10-13 year olds)

The technique class is ballet technique for Ukrainian dancers. Ukrainian dance and ballet coalesce harmoniously, each enhancing the other’s strengths. Class length – 1.25 hours 

Intermediate and Senior

The intermediate and Senior classes offer training to dancers between the age of 12 – 18 years who aspire to have a broader understanding of Ukrainian dance. A sense of commitment, passion and self-motivation is required to meet the intermediate and senior level’s high standards and commitment. Dancers will develop an enhanced sense of Ukrainian and ballet technique, performance, storytelling, cultural knowledge, confidence and creativity. It is recommended that intermediate and senior dancers attend the ballet class. 

Intermediate Class length — 2x 2 hours

Senior Class length — 2x 2 hours

Intermediate 2 / Advance Adult Ukrainian 19+

Minimum 4 years of dance experience in Ballet or Ukrainian dance required. Expand your dance vocabulary in this physically challenging and choreographically advanced class. This is a progressive class from September to June with multiple performances starting in late winter or early spring.

Class length – 1.5 hours 

SkunkWorks

Veselka’s semi-professional company. This is a small, secretive, elite team that dropped out of mainstream company operations in order to develop something new for the sake of innovation.

By invite or audition. Please do not register for this class unless you have been invited to.

Class length — 4+ hours

Costume Fees for 2025/2026

Veselka is very fortunate to have an extensive collection of costumes from various regions throughout Ukraine to outfit our dancers. To help with costume care and maintenance, a small annual costume fee will be charged to each dancer based on their dance level. Due January 1, 2026

TERM CLASSES 

Term classes run for 10-15 week sessions, they are a great way to explore an interest in movement without committing to a full year of classes. Term classes are not performance classes and will not be included in any of our performances, however, participants are welcome to come to all events that Veselka hosts.  

Term 1 – September 8, 2025 – December 19, 2025  ( no class September 30, October 13, October 31, November 11)

Term 2 – January 5, 2026 – March 27, 2026 ( no class February 16)

Term 3 – April 7, 2026 – June 19, 2026 (no class May 1, May 18)
